The Ophthalmic Technician 1 performs skilled duties related to the eye. This position assists the physician and is part of the health care team for ocular health. Essential Functions of the Role. Initiates and documents the patient's chief complaint, history of present illness, medical history, review of systems, and pertinent ocular findings accurately. Follows compliance guidelines. Performs testing including visual acuity measurement, lensometry, pupil function testing, ocular motility, tonometry, and confrontation visual field testing. Provides other patient services as requested by the ophthalmologist. Performs refractometry; manual manifest refraction to draft preliminary glasses prescription. Performs various specialty tests ordered by a physician, such as pachymetry, Brightness Acuity Test (BAT), Potential Acuity Meter (PAM), and color vision testing.
